Step1 The first item that you should add to your skin care regimen is Retinol. Retinol is a natural form of vitamin A. It changes the PH level of your skin and therefore creates collagen (a component of youthful skin). It has been known to reverse the damage caused by photo-aging. It reduces fine wrinkles, freckles and keratoses. If one applies it topically, they must use it in a compound that includes vitamin C or E. The additional vitamins stop the degeneration of retinol making your cream or serum more effective. You can also boost your topical application by ingesting retinol orally through carotene and vitamin rich foods like: Carrots, kale, mango, raw spinach, papaya, romaine, broccoli, and oranges to name a few.

Step2 The second process that you want to consider is microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a resurfacing technique that removes the outer layer of the skin. If done by a surgeon, the procedure is performed with a device that sprays a fine mist of tiny crystals across the face. These fine crystals brush off dead skin cells that get trapped in the folds of the epidermis giving the appearance of a wrinkle. As with many procedures, this technique may have to be done more than once to achieve a desired result. Though microdermabrasion is very effective, it can be costly if administered by a surgeon. Many companies sell affordable microdermabrasion kits that are self administered. These kits come with a cream that contains finely grained crystals. You can use it with or without a resurfacing tool. It is important to use a highly emollient cream after the procedure in order to replenish oils lost in the process.

Step3 The third cosmetic approach that one may decide upon is Botox. Botox is a non surgical, physician administered treatment that can smooth lines on the face that are caused by facial expressions. It is a purified protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacterium. This protein relaxes facial muscles and gives a smooth look to the skin. It is localized procedure. A surgeon injects the serum directly on the area effected by wrinkling.

Step4 Alpha hydroxy acids are effective in erasing fine wrinkles and removing scars. Alpha hydroxy acids are water soluble which means that Alpha hydroxy acids are better used on thickened, sun-damaged skin where break outs are not a problem. AHA as they are often called, rejuvenate the skin by encouraging the shedding of damaged surface skin cells. Glycolic acid is an AHA that is most commonly used, but lactic and citric acid are also very effective. AHAs also affect the deeper layer of our skin which regenerates collagen and elastin.

Step5 Laser skin resurfacing is another technique used to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin. A surgeon uses a wand-like hand piece that admits intense light beams and removes wrinkles that disappear in a puff of mist. The old skin is removed entirely and new skin appears! Laser can tighten skin, remove scars and improve crow' s feet. It also softens pucker marks and frown lines. This can only be performed by a doctor and depending on how aggressive your session, you may need recovery time.

It is a wonderful thing to age. Most societies have begun to look at aging as a gift of knowledge and wisdom. Some of Hollywood's hottest actors and actresses are well over 40 and gracing the "World's Most Beautiful People" list! Though age is not such a condition to fear in this new millennium, there still is something to be said about growing old gracefully. Simple procedures can help you continue to look as good as you feel and face aging with a confident face
